ClimateYouChange and Green Street Working Group members, Shiraz, Lewis, Celia and Tariq have achieved success with two of the funding bid suggestions we put forward and developed with the other Working Group members and council officers for Community Assembly CIL voting.
Successful projects:
The projects in question received the highest number of residents’ votes out of the 15 projects put forward by residents, local community groups and the Green Street Working Group and are as follows:
Improvement to Priory Park
Tree Planting and Planters.
ClimateYouChange are very happy to have had this impact through the involvement of some of our members in the Green Street Working Group.
We will now need to wait for the relevant meetings to be arranged by Zakir Adam, Community Neighbourhood Manager for Green Street, and his neighbourhood team. Site locations will need to be allocated/firmed up, logistics will require consideration and conversations will need to be had with the relevant council departments.
We understand that this will take time and may well happen after the wheels are put in motion for the resident and community group led projects. However, we are ready and waiting to play our part in this exciting and positive process!
Projects reserved for another time:
‘Green Street Day’ and ‘Neighbourhood Bike Hangers’ didn’t unfortunately secure enough votes. We are nonetheless keen to start to change conversations and attitudes around driving, by improving cycle infrastructure and just as crucially through showing residents a more active travel, community focussed alternative to personal vehicle use.
We can revisit these same suggestions later and can consider a ClimateYouChange run project, which could help us to push our more positive initial suggestions around the recreational aspects of the initiative, to greater appeal to residents.
