We were invited by ClimateYouChange group member, Joseph to an event that he was holding for his local charity employer, the Renewal Programme. The session took place in a large, open community function space at the back of East Ham library.

The charity-run event was aimed primarily at families, with a range of fun craft and sports-based activities for children with their accompanying parents and carers. Information on foodbank use, benefits and immigration support was offered, alongside council provided healthcare advice.

ClimateYouChange members Anitha, Jyotsna and Celia represented the group, overseeing our sustainability themed activities.

We were partly present within our partner role providing energy-saving advice and directing local people to Groundworks, Green Doctors service to help provided them with a tailor-made energy-reduction plan.

Within this capacity, we were also able to work with another element of ClimateYouChange’s education plan; that of providing information and giveaways to help members of our communities see how they can live more sustainably.

We found the food and wildflower seed starter giveaway packs, plus the affordable, sustainable product samples to be popular. At one point, when a large of women left an adjoining exercise class, we found ourselves flooded by ladies clambering to receive the seed starter packs and free eco product samples, alongside access to the detailed information sheets we were providing.

Thank you to Jyotsna for her graphics work on the climate education flyers for children

The quieter times were far and few between with someone new always lined up to come and chat to us to find out more.
